The Best Thing you can do for your Marriage
Posted by Dr. Cason on Friday, June 20th, 2008
After 8 years of marriage my husband and I did the unthinkable. The unimaginable. We took a week off. Together. At the same time. And put the kids in their regularly scheduled programs.
We learned to dive.
We held hands and shared air and a kiss under water.
We went to breakfast. Twice.
We saw a movie.
We drove. In silence.
We laughed over stupid jokes.
We drank lots of wine.
We didn’t fight. Or pick or snap at each other.
We didn’t clean the house. And most of all…
We didn’t feel guilty.

nicoleon 21 Jun 2008 at 3:29 am 4That sounds great - everyone should do this every once in a while!
We don’t have any kids, so it’s easier for us, but yes, we do it as well

Erinon 21 Jun 2008 at 3:48 am 6That sounds AWESOME. Totally wish we could do that. Someday we will.
We’re doing the second-best thing tonight: going out for a movie (You Don’t Mess With The Zohan - please, God, let it be funny and let there be funny parts we haven’t already seen in the previews, Amen) and then to a favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner. I have been looking forward to this ALL WEEK. The opportunities to hold my husband’s hand are few and far between with 2 under 3. I’m sure you know how it is.

Dr. Casonon 21 Jun 2008 at 6:37 am 7Nutmeg- Italy Wow. How long will you be gone?
Rebecca- You definitely have to do this. We were like little kids. Skipping around planning our days!
Ambre- Heaven. It was really nice since we usually get caught up with the usual- “Do you pay the phone bill?” and “Your mother called today” kind of conversations.
Nicole- It’s nice to discover what you still like about each other. Kids or not.
Guin- Do it as a couple. We were recommended by a friend to do it separately because she anticipated that we would fight but it wasn’t that way at all. We learned to trust each other in a different way and it brought us closer.
Erin- Enjoy the dinner and a movie! Sometimes I think the anticipation is better than the actual event. Well almost.

Barbara Swaffordon 21 Jun 2008 at 4:59 pm 10Hi Dr. Cason,
How romantic. I bet you won’t wait as long to do it again. It’s great to reconnect with our hubbies and spend quality time together. It’s good for the kids too. They need to know mommy and daddy need “their” time too.
