Such Facial Expressions!

Posted by Dr. Cason on Sunday, August 10th, 2008

I’m always fascinated with facial expressions and particularly so when they are my own kids! This afternoon we were doing some tie dying and I think he got a little bored waiting for all those little rubber bands to be completed. I glanced up and saw him with leaning his cheek on his little hand. (Note the stitches- they come out in two days!) I grabbed my camera and started clicking away…

Hmmm#4

He didn’t seem to notice…

Hmmm#3

He adjusted his position ever so slightly.

Hmmm#2

Even started to speak a little. But check out the hand. Didn’t move it! How hilarious is that?

Hmmm#1

Finally I couldn’t take it and I asked him, “Hey what are doing little man- just resting?”

Hmmm#5

And he started to crack up! And then so did I!

Kids man! I love them! I’ll show you the tie dye in a few days but next up is Medicine Mondays- I can’t let all this training go to waste so I’m starting a new series. Ask me anything you want. I’ll give you my two cents or direct you where to go find it.

I love watching my kids and seeing all the facial expressions they make.

I have a question for you. Is there any way to get a two and a half year old to stop sucking his thumbs? Harry is a hard core thumb sucker and is just healing from a very nasty blister that he gave himself. I was about ready to take him to the doctor from fear of infection when it started looking better and a lot less icky. This is not the first time that he has injured his thumbs and I naturally worry about it. Any tips? Should I wait it out since he is so dearly attached to sucking his thumbs?

Oh Sheila - what a precious little face. He reminds me of my Joey’s faces (he will be 3 on August 19th, and grandma will be there in Texas for a big birthday celebration).

Could you please post the instructions of how you do your tie dye for me too? I would love to do this with Mackenzie and Joey while in Texas, but I have forgotten how.

Finally, the boo-boo on the head seems to have healed nicely. I know Dr. Cason has been taking good care of it for him. Glad he has healed so nicely - stitches out and then he can go swimming again!

    What a sweet face!
My question: I have a healthy 16yo girl who bruises very easily. I mean if you touch her hard she bruises. She has been like this from the get go. She regularly has at least one or two and cannot remember how she got them. I was wondering if this means that she may be deficient in something? Any clues?

Kyla- Thanks I think so too!

Awesome- Ahh! The ever present thumb! I’ve got two thumb suckers. Great I’ll tackle this one! Look for the answer soon.

Kat- Yes I’ll post the instructions. It was way easier than I remembered but also messier!

Rebbeca- Could mean a couple of things! I’ll post this as well. :)

He is gorgeous! I love the last one, his eyes are dancing!
Your medicine Monday sounds very intriguing.

    I have lots of questions but here is one for you;

Is it better to treat iron deficiency before the child becomes anaemic or is ok to wait until the haemoglobin drops? Ivy’s MCV and other stores are low and dropping but she is not yet anaemic.

Medicine Monday sounds wonderful… I secretly LOVE doctors… I know it’s weird and creepy but I think that they are like super Hero’s. Again I know how geeky that sounds! Teach me Sheila, teach me!

Kids are God’s presents to us, to help us keep laughing! I LOVE those pictures!

I am glad you’re doing the medical question thing. Our family has recently moved, and now have to go to a MTF, and I am NOT happy with the lack of continuation of care….

So, the question….my eldest (14yo) daughter just had allergy testing (not nearly as involved as your son’s) because she reacted to some almonds she ate…but the testing came up negative. Ummmm…can you explain to me why she would still be reacting to them if she tested negative? We’re not talking anaphylaxis…just some mild swelling.

tiff- They are dancing aren’t they! Have they checked Ivy’s iron stores?

Kristen- The whole table cracked up. My other two started putting their little hands on their faces too!

Nikki- At least someone does. :)

Laura- I missed your comment! I’ll have to post the response next week. But I do have a question- What do you mean by negative? Do you have a number?

    Hi Dr. Cason,

What a cute series of Jake’s expressions. He’s a little doll. I love the last one when he cracks up. Precious!

Barbara- That seems to be everyone’s favorite, mine is when his little lips curl when he’s trying to talk!
