A Few of My Favorite Things
Posted by Dr. Cason on Friday, August 15th, 2008
It’s been a long past couple of weeks. All three have been kids sick. The clinic has been full of diagnostic dilemmas and school physicals. So I’ve been missing my home.
And I love home.
Being called a homebody isn’t an insult. It’s the truth.
So now my workweek is over and it’s 8:30 at night and all is settling down. I’m sitting here watching Alton Brown’s show about Bananas and reveling in my comfort zone.
The way I make myself comfortable is I first
Light a candle
And some incense
And then just relax with a few of my favorite things:
My woven baskets
My wall hangings
My favorite art
(photographer Luke Batten- my brother)
If you can’t guess it already I’m a little crunchy granola. I like it that way.
Now I’m off to fall asleep to The Food Network or the Olympics. Night night everyone!

Kristinon 15 Aug 2008 at 4:56 am 4I have had just the opposite type of week. I’ve been home all week, I’ve taken a nap each afternoon and my dear husband is gone for a few weeks (which is like a mini vacation for me!) However we have had 4 months of non stop work - 8am until 8pm so many of those days. This week has been just what I needed.
I hope that you were rejuvenated a bit and that the kids start feeling better soon.

kathleenon 15 Aug 2008 at 5:52 am 5Makes me relax just reading about it.
I also put on some of my wonderful White Shoulders bath powder before bed, and some wonderful lotion. Then I curl up in my bed with one dog across the end of the bed (the 70 lb chow/lab mix named Onnie), one curled up near my stomach under the covers (that would be Tinkerbell - the 12 lb chi/JRT mix), and one curled up to my back behind me (that would be Sophie - the 8 lb wild Mexican Rose chihuahua). Yes, I smell very good for myself and those doggies!
I put in one of my Sanford & Sons DVDs, and watch. When I am tired, I close my eyes and just listen because I know them all by heart now (I have the complete set as gifts from my brother). I still lay there and laugh silently at Sanford, Grady, Bubba, Esther, and all the others until I am sound asleep! Ah, I can hardly wait for tonight . . . .
kathleenon 15 Aug 2008 at 5:55 am 6Oh, forgot one thing. Often my cell phone will ring shortly after 11:00 pm my time (Moonbeam’s Mom calls me at 9:00 pm her time for our free minutes talking). If I hear it, we chat for a short time. The other night though I went to sleep and was “snoring in her ear.” I heard this voice say, “Kathleen, are you asleep?” and woke up suddenly. How embarrassing - only friends would understand.
Dr. Casonon 15 Aug 2008 at 7:59 am 7Lance- It was comforting. Fell fast asleep within minutes of shutting off the computer!
Elizabeth- I always forget about it too! I have a good friend who lights it all the time and just the hint of it burning relaxes me and reminds me that I need to light it more often.
Kyla- Thanks! You too!
Kathleen- You’re so funny. I can almost heard the theme song in my head! And the falling asleep on a friend- that’s a true friend!
Lisaon 15 Aug 2008 at 9:02 am 8I need some of that but instead I am heading off to work with the Cancer kids.

Isn’t it relaxing when the house is quiet and we can relax surrounded by that which entices our senses?
Have a great weekend!
