Anti-Procrastination Day
Posted by Dr. Cason on Saturday, August 16th, 2008
It’s my Friday and I’ve declared Fridays my anti-procrastination day! I first got this idea from Flylady (seriously check out this site if you are at all interested in becoming organized). She suggested Wednesdays but that’s a busy day for me at the office and I needed to have a whole day where I can stay home if I need to or run errands or both. So Fridays it is.
I’m pretty bad about letting things slide and today I’d had enough. I was a little ambitious considering all three kids are home exempt from camp and pre-school. But I tried anyway. Heck I figured people do this all the time right? I should be able to make a few phone calls.
Well I did it! I tackled personal as well as professional tasks.
Personal:
- Ordered my oldest’s bus pass today.( Why I was procrastinating this I don’t know)
- Called workers to come fix some broken parts in our home.
- Replaced the air filter in our home.
- Filed my organizer with this month’s pages. (I know! This month is almost over. Better late than never.)
- Tried to schedule doctor appointments for the kids- (No go. All booked. Need to try again Monday.)
- Scheduled Dentist appointment for my oldest. (The other two went last week)
- Filled out the soccer registration for my girls (Actually I’m still doing this as I write!)
Professional:
- Reworked my business plans with MommyMD.org
- Started my business plan for MommyMD.org and DrCason.org
- Developing a plan for an allergen-free dessert cookbook(Seriously it’s the hardest thing to serve Jake)
- Redefining my niche for DrCason.org- Thank you Barbara at Blogging Without a Blog
No kidding I feel super charged right now. It’s funny how we avoid things thinking that it’ll drag us down. But the truth is it makes us float!
What things are you avoiding? Do you have an anti-procrastination day?
What small tiny thing could you do right now? (Dump the trash? Make your bed? Do twenty sit ups?)
Do it!
And come back and tell me all about it. I’ll be delighted to see what you come up with.

Lanceon 16 Aug 2008 at 9:10 am 3Procrastination – one of my nemesis’s.
And, today ended up being one of those days where I just got a lot accomplished. It all started with a breakfast meeting that really just set the day into the right motion. So, how appropriate that at the end of the day I end up here – and read about … an anti-procastination day! That’s too cool!!
I need to do this more often – you’ve inspired me to make it a regular practice. In the words of Nike, “Just Do It”.
I like the look here! And good luck on your ventures with MommyMD.
Dr. Casonon 16 Aug 2008 at 3:01 pm 4Awesome- Commit to doing one part of it. Once you’re down there it’ll be silly not to do a couple more. Then the next time it’ll just be a few more feet! Or you could just do the one part and then save the next part until later. I always do my floor in parts!
Barbara- You’re quite welcome! You’ve been a big help moving me in the right direction and keeping me motivated!
Lance- Yeah! Just do it is right!! Feels so good.
Linda Abbiton 16 Aug 2008 at 5:30 pm 5Hi Dr. Cason,
When I accomplish things that I’ve been procrastinating about, they almost always get done faster than I had thought they would, which is why I was procrastinating on doing them in the first place!
I try to remember that fact when I’m putting something off and making it seem like an “it will take forever” task.
It does feel good to get things done!

Trishon 16 Aug 2008 at 6:38 pm 6I always procrastinate folding clothes and putting them away. It seems like such a monumental task some days. I get the basket into the bedroom and then…. I just can’t seem to get anything put away.
And then I force my own hand …. I finally pour the clothes on the bed, knowing I will need to got to bed sometime and I will HAVE to put the clothes away.
And the task I had made so monumental takes me all of 10 minutes….
Reminds me of a quote I learned a while back (sorry, can’t come up with the author) that has frequently been proven true, at least in my life…
The anticipation of a thing is often far greater than the thing itself.
That applies to both good and bad…
Sheila, you are an awesome inspiring force! Keep it up!

Mary Aliceon 18 Aug 2008 at 3:12 am 7Ohhh…that is inspiring. I will give it a whirl…maybe I’ll even start today, because at this very moment, I am on the computer to avoid doing several thaings that really wouldn’t take long to finish and would make a great deal of difference

Dr. Casonon 18 Aug 2008 at 4:03 pm 8Sorry for the delay everyone! My internet has been down!
Linda- I know it feels good huh?
Trish- 10 minutes!! LOL I know! Some things take seconds. Like making an appointment!
Mary Alice-Sooo. .. Did you step away from the computer??
Angelaon 18 Aug 2008 at 11:06 pm 9Before I started working full time nothing was put off (well except for the things my husband needed to do). Working full time I find it much harder getting everything I need done. I guess I need to pick a day like you did.
Smiles!

Erinon 19 Aug 2008 at 4:20 am 10I try to do this to some extent every day. I have set things to accomplish housework-wise for each day of the week (Monday is laundry & bathrooms, Tuesdays are garbage, Wednesday is dusting, Thursday is vacuuming). I try to get those done in the morning or right after both kids go down for nap at 1 and then I have the rest of the afternoon to work for money.
So today I:
– did 3 loads of laundry. the 4th is in the washer.
– cleaned both toilets and sinks/countertops. tub washing is for the birds and the times when we have company coming to stay.
– emptied the dishwasher and the hand-wash stuff out of the sink and reloaded the dishwasher.
– called the cops on the guy who drives down my road at 5:45 every morning doing 90 on his crotch rocket. he’s gonna kill himself (bad) or someone else (worse) one of these days.
– went to the outlet mall and bought 2 pairs of capris and 2 pairs of shorts, with 2 kids (and my mom) in tow.
I think there is more, but I am forgetting it now.
