Early Intervention and Speech Delay in Children
Question:
When should Early Childhood Intervention be called in on a situation? My daughter now 15 months old really doesn’t say anything. I discussed with our pedi at her 9 month appointment in preparation for her 12 month appt. where she is supposed to be saying 6 words including mama and dada. Well, at 15 months says mama and dada occasionally and doesn’t really say anything else - audible that is…(Read more…)

What a wonderful idea. It’s so kind of you to share what you’ve learned with your readers. I’m sure much of it will ease a parents mind.
Happy doctoring!!!!

White Hot Magikon 19 Aug 2008 at 12:29 pm 5Good to know info. I thought of your TV entry when my son got diagnosed with a speech problem recently. Actually I have always thought he was a little hard to understand, but normal for his age. However the doctor we saw for his well child sent us for it, and I honestly didn’t think he would have one. I’ll try to not feel too guilty for letting him watch TV too early, although we don’t watch Baby Einstein. ; )

Kristinon 19 Aug 2008 at 3:37 pm 6Thanks so much for answering my question — I never thought about a dermatologist. It seems like such an easy answer that I should have thought of it - but it never seemed like a skin condition, but rather an internal thing. Well, I hope this information helps someone else, too.
Bless you for taking time to answer questions to medical questions. I’m already looking forward to next weeks post!

Dr. Casonon 19 Aug 2008 at 9:17 pm 7Laura- You’re quite welcome.
White Hot- So what did you watch? I watched Oprah!
Kristen- Your welcome! I look forward to hearing what the specialist has to say!
White Hot Magikon 20 Aug 2008 at 5:27 am 8We watched a lot of PBS cartoons or Noggin. They do love Little Einsteins though. Of course their daddy loves it when they learn about classical music, I love it when they learn about bugs and plants. No wonder the kids love it.

Nikkion 21 Aug 2008 at 1:36 am 9Well since you have NO questions here I go!
Danger does this thing a couple times a day where her left foot twitches, and when I say twitches I mean TWITCHES, it usually only happens if there is a little bit of pressure on it, like if she is pushing on my hands with her feet. What’s that all about?
My next questions aren’t really pediatric questions so if you don’t know the answer well then that’s ok!
When having Danger I lost a lot of blood and ended up have 2 blood transfusions. MY hemoglobin are back to normal now(I’m an iron champion!) but she still told me that I should wait until Danger is at least 6 months before we start trying to baby number two. THAT SUCKS! I do NOT want to be like 7, 8, or 9 months pregnant in my middle of summer. Do I really have to wait?
If I increase my food intake by a gazillion times is it safe to breast feed while being pregnant?
and last but not least…
Dammit when will my hair stop falling out by the handfuls? My hair is everywhere I’m like a big shaggy dog!!
That’s it! Don’t mean to monopolize medicine Mondays so if other people end up having questions feel free to answer there’s rather than my non pediatric question. I have a Dr’s appointment mid September so I’ll get the answers eventually!
