First Grade Open House and Santa Claus

All Sharpened Up

Just home from open house. Met up with the infamous Mrs. X.

Loved her.  I don’t know what I was worried about. She was warm and friendly and very informative. And of course she had such nice things to say about my little girl. I mean how can you not like a person who showers your child with praise.

Little Miss Blue Eyes is thriving in her class. She has been bragging about all the little things she gets to do and she recently declared that Math is her favorite subject- Math!? Where’d  she get that? Certainly not from me- I was a bookworm. But she says she likes math because she gets to work on the computer.

So now I’m here the almost too soft couch nibbling on some cookies. The long day is over- the days are getting darker and the rain is coming more frequently. The “Ber” months have definitely arrived. There is a shift in the air.  Soon it’ll be Christmas. Too soon you say?

Not for my kids.

On the way home from the open house we got into a deep discussion about Santa Claus and how does he know all the kids that are alive?  ( I told her he had a lot of helpers) and How does he get here with his reindeer (My 4 year old answered that one- MAGIC!) My first grader is starting to let the pure logistics of Santa Claus creep into her current understanding. I fear it won’t be long until she knows. I hope the big kids on her bus don’t spoil it for her.

Off  to bed now.

(Oh the photo is just a tiny sampling of the hundreds of colored pencils we have. This is a coloring household if you didn’t know already)

Ok now I am really off. Night Night everyone. I hope to get some time tomorrow to go a visiting. Thank you for your warm birthday wishes for my soul mate and kind words.

Glad that things turned out with Mrs. X.

You’re talking Christmas already! We are all about Halloween right now in our house. My husband and son are going to decorate the yard with ghosts! My 3 year old is very excited.

Santa Claus is tough for us too, but for a little different reason. We celebrate Hannakah, so we get lots of questions about Christmas and Santa Claus, who is he, why don’t we have a tree, does he come to our house. Tough questions. We don’t have to worry too much about it yet, but we will think of something when the time comes.

I feel like kids are figuring things like this out earlier than they should- 5 and already realizing Santa Claus might not be who mom and dad say- yikes!

    Sleep well.

Moonbeam’s Mom – We need to get our own private jet. You and I could visit, and then we could go visit our children and grandchildren far away to. Maybe even take them to Paris for lunch! Of course, it would have to have deluxe kennels, playgrounds and grooming facilities for us and our pooches. Hey, when I dream I DREAM BIG. . . .

Sheila – Who could help but love that beautiful little miss blue eyes. She would have to be crazy! Great news for you and miss blue eyes.

Hi Dr Cason – I’m glad you were worrying over nothing re. Mrs X.

It’s a shame but kids do seem to learn that Santa Claus doesn’t exist from other kids. But don’t worry – when they’re still very young they tend not to believe those kids anyway.

Sounds much better than the day I had spent in the ER with my sick kid. Fever & Neutropenia. Not a combination I like. At the end, they said it was a virus.

Sara- Miss Blue Eyes has her birthday right before Halloween so this year when she saw all the decorations come out she started yelling- Hey everyone is decorating for my birthday!

Moon Mom- You are- in a way. :)

Kathleen- She’s a sweetie for sure.

Cath- Oh that’s good to hear. She’ll say they are lying- hopefully.

    Lisa- Hmmm..What’s was her ANC?

We also celebrate Chanuka, so never had to worry about the Santa Claus thing. BUT, my son was totally crushed when he learned that Mickey & Minnie Mouse weren’t really mice that walk & talk like us!

My son was blessed with great teachers except for one in elementary school and one in high school. Glad Mrs. X is working out!

    I just love your photographs!

Isn’t it wonderful to get those postive strokes about our kids?
Glad to hear Mrs. X is a great teacher. After open house last week, I knew that SnakeMaster’s teacher is a wonderful fit for him. A good teacher makes a great difference in our kids’ lives –and in our own!
