Hi Dr. Cason,

Ah, if this bell could tell stories. I find it amazing how it survived WWII.

Hi Everyone-

Actually this bell is part of the old church but they built a new one behind it. Life does go on it seems. We just choose how we relate to it. Everywhere you go here on Guam you'll see the impact of the war. I'll have to do a photo essay on it.

The house that I live in was given to a 5th grade teacher at the local school after she lost her husband in the attacks on Pearl Harbor. She raised her two sons here and took care of her Mother when she was dying here and her brother. When we moved in the house was full of her attempts to keep up with her apple trees, and her long years of teaching and one trunk full of her husband's things (we passed this on to her remaining son.)
Two doors down a judge who sat on the Nuremberg Trials after WWII, built a mansion with high walls and never left his home, he was so changed by the experience - the world was only allowed to come to his gate.
The two neighbors comforted each other and tried to make sense of things. They ate apples.
Doesn't war always change so much....too much maybe always
Lovely picture - reminders of what has gone before and what has held firm.

SHEILA - The more I looked at this picture, the more these words came to me:

Simon Peter holds the first place in the college of the Twelve; Jesus entrusted a unique mission to him. Through a revelation from the Father, Peter had confessed: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Our Lord then declared to him: "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it." Christ, the "living Stone", thus assures his Church, built on Peter, of victory over the powers of death.

This is indeed a "living Stone" to remind us God overcame this battle.

Oh Sheila, such a sweet picture. Can you almost look at it and hear the bell's large, strong sounds going all over the island? I can just by looking at this picture.

Such a part of history which has been preserved over time. I am so in favor of saving history for our generations to come. It is almost like God is reminding us He is still there although the church is gone.
