Even Doctors Get Sick
Posted by Dr. Cason on Monday, September 22nd, 2008
Not much will keep me out of the clinic. I even drag my sick children in and have them sleep aside my computer. They get to drift into dreamland while I float in and out of the patient’s room. I can check on them all the while I get my work done. And when I’m sick, I tend to barrel through it.
But today I caved. I had to call off. Sore throat and a runny nose I can take. Myalgias go away with Motrin.
But Acute Gastroenteritis needs the tincture of time. Besides I figure the parents would appreciate me not superinfecting their kids. I hope.
So I made that call today. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I can make it in.” And then I dropped the kids off hurriedly at their respective spots today and I headed back to bed. Snuggled under the sheets with my two overly stuffed pillows and my in badly need of replacement queen sized bed, I slept for another 4 hours.
Now I’m nursing a headache. I can’t tell if it’s mild dehydration or lack of coffee- Please Honey get better and make me some coffee (Figuring out the art of coffee has yet to be my strong suit).
I’m trying little pedialyte right now – it’s salty and all I have- and moving on to Medicine Mondays over at my other blog- MommyMD.org.

Lots of soup and Ginger Ale helps. See if that sweet husband will pick you up some Ginger Ale. I drink very cold on ice and it helps it stay down and my tummy feel better.
Praying for you sweet lady. Get well soon.
Tatianaon 23 Sep 2008 at 7:23 am 2Im sorry you are sick! I am sick too. My face is so pressurized!:( I have done everything i can. I take my allergy meds, used those great and wonderful menthol shower soothers and have also used the neti pot but the congestion and pressure wont budge! This happens everytime i spend more than an hour out side. Maybe i should look into getting some allergy shots. I don’t know if it will help. Get well soon.

Kathleen- He was worse off than I!
Tatiana- Oh No! Try a hot washcloth and Sudafed and then the neti pot.

Dr. Casonon 23 Sep 2008 at 12:14 pm 7Vodkamom- Oh No. *shaking head sadly from side to side* No. No. No. Eons ago some Slushi drink made with Vodka and Lemonade put me to shame. The evening started out all right and ended with me sobbing on some strangers shoulder, digging around the grass looking for my lost earring, puking in my best friend’s car and then (I’m terribly ashamed to say) passing out. Never have had it since.
Sara- Well it was the only time I was confined to my bed and couldn’t be expected to be running around the house. I did that later!
Nikki- I know!
