Happy Birthday to Me

I’m writing this early. I’ll be celebrating tomorrow. Enjoying the family.
I still feel like I’m 12 years old. Insecure and bumbling about. But I’m not. 12 that this is.
And then the right mood hits, the vitamins or maybe the extra sleep kicks in and I’m happy and confident.
I used to wish over my birthday candles the same wish every year-
I wish to be happy.
Like it was attainable just through some careful planned whispers.
Now I know the truth. It takes work and doing the right things to bring you that.
If you’re lucky and you keep yourself on track, you just might get closer to having that sense of peace that comes from a well lived life. For me being happy means working hard on:
- Forgiving myself and others
- Putting my family first
- Focusing more on healing than prescribing
- Empathizing more than sympathizing
- Reading more and talking less
- Writing from the heart and less from the brain
- Looking into people’s eyes to see their soul
- Thanking more and complaining less
- Smiling more and crying less
This year, I’m not sure what I’ll wish over my candles.
Maybe I’ll just say
Thank You
Because at the end of the day, I still feel grateful.

Don’t get me wrong I do a 60 day countdown to my birthday and at all times know how far away it is (3 months 9 days) but it’s more just because selfishly I enjoy that in my life there is one day each year that is about me. I’m sure things will be different this year as the world doesn’t stop to focus on me now that Danger is in it but we’ll see. All the best on yours though!!

“Healing” to me means looking at the whole person, not just the symptom. I think that’s a wonderful thing to add to your list….which by the way, is all about you as a “whole” person.
