A Doctor’s Life - It’s Not Just About Medicine

Night Lights

Posted by Dr. Cason on Friday, October 10th, 2008

There was a time long ago when I came alive at night.

Then I became a doctor.

Then I had kids.

And now night time is when I sleep. Except now I have joined the full time working moms of this world- for the next few weeks. It’s bronchiolitis season and the clinic is bustling.

I find myself coming home later and later.

I took advantage of the drive last night and took some photos. Man it’s pretty at night.

Night Lights

But I’d still rather stay in, grab some wine and read a book. I go to bed early. Really early by some people’s standards but then I’m up before daylight and it’s really peaceful.

What about you? Are you a morning person or evening? Have you changed over the years?

Gorgeous photo! Great color and motion.

I’m a night person predominately, but I always like to be the first awake in the house so I have time to get my bearing before the craziness begins.

I’m definitely a night person. It’s the only time when everything is peaceful in my house. There is nothing like sitting out on the deck drinking a latte under the stars! However due to Dangers 7am wake up time (this morning she got up at 5:15 for a special treat) I am finding myself going to bed earlier and earlier!

Although when I worked at Starbucks I got up at 4am everyday so I went to bed between 6 and 8 every night! Crazy how I used to get 10 hours of sleep all in one lump sum!

    Love the photo!

I am definitely a night owl, I have always been this way -
my eldest son is the same.

My Mum always said I lived by my own clock - ate when I was hungry, slept when I was tired - regardless of what the clock said!

Night Owl!!! Although, I have been getting up early (just started this week…I’ll see how long it lasts) to go work out before the kids wake up. But no matter how early I have to wake up, I just can’t seem to go to bed before 10:00.

Oh such a beautiful picture. I love the night and this picture is just why! The beauty of all the wonderful colors, etc. against that dark backdrop. I live in the county with no street lights, so I often just park and sit in my car for a few minutes at night and admire the beauty around me and the beautiful stars in the sky as well. Of course, pretty soon I have a couple of little doggie heads looking out the window at me!

    That picture is really colorful!

Night, definitely. It takes me about 2 hours to clear the fog out of my head in the morning.

I do like that you write every day, but if you need to miss a day now and then I will try to understand. ;-)

I’m definitely a morning person. I’m most productive in the morning, at work and home. I don’t think I’ve stayed up past 9:30pm in some time now. Especially after having a child! I need my rest, and love to wake up early (around 5:30 during the week), drink coffee before our daughter gets up, then start my day.

I was ALWAYS a morning person and I love to be awake before the sun comes up. I loved it in Nursing school when I had to get to the hospital by 6:30. I would get up and drive the streets of LA at six and it was so peaceful. I am so ooooovver working nights. I feel like I lose the day sleeping.

I am a morning person by force. Ivy and Noah and all of my other kidlets get up early. I enjoy the mornings where we can just relax, without the school routine, hang out in our jammies on my bed. Those are the best mornings but I find I function better in the morning anyhow. Nights, I am exhausted by the time all the kids are in bed. Socialising at night was never really my thing.

Very much a morning person. 530am weekdays. I was a night owl, up until I had children. Then when all the boys were born and blessing my life. I like to wake up in the morning to see them sleeping and wonder what lies ahead in their lives. I am normally in bed asleep by 10pm at the latest and I was told i go to bed too early, but is there ever a too early when your body is telling you to go to bed. Not in my book.

I hope the kids are doing well, I see the girls sometimes at school. They are growing up so fast, and they light up the room with their smiles and energy. How is little man Jake doing? Take care and have a great weekend.

I used to be a night hawk but having to be in the hospital at 7 AM has changed that. I like being in the hospital in the morning and I’ve grown accustomed to it but I still love being there late at night when the chaos has generally died down. Our night nurses are awesome and when I’m on night float, I typically don’t sleep but hang out with them instead.

If I could work nights, I totally would.
