A Doctor’s Life - It’s Not Just About Medicine

Grateful and Some Odds and Ends

Posted by Dr. Cason on Sunday, October 12th, 2008

Little Miss Blue Eyes is losing a tooth. I’m savoring the last few days of that sweet wiggly guy trying to come out.

Yesterday’s runner’s high lasted all day. Though I did feel really sniffly and sneezy a few hours later. Now I’m officially sick- toxin release? Is that even possible? I’m grateful I got out there and felt the breeze, the dripping rain and struggled with the water.

I just learned a close friend has breast cancer. She’s younger than I. Gulp.

Now I sit here and feel grateful. I’m supposed to be working on my to do list- I’ll do that tomorrow.

For now I’m going to count my blessings.

I’m going to visit 10 blogs and say hello- because that’s the best part of blogging- reaching out.

I’m going to light some incense and put away the groceries.

I’m going to prepare for a dinner party and play with my kids.

I’m going to get some rest and eat something healthy.

Breast Cancer- I could cry.

I’m going to say a prayer.

Don’t let your friend get too upset. I know three breast cancer survivors (one of which is my mother) who are doing fine now. My maternal grandmother lived for a long time after her first surgery, then it came back - but she did not undergo any chemotherapy either. Treatments now are so much more successful. I’ll pray for her.

Of course, I have to keep a close watch. I am a prime candidate because of my family history.

I remember losing my baby teeth quite vividly. I loved it. I’m not sure what it was that I enjoyed so much. I think it had to do with knowing it was a sign of growing up. Thinking back on it now I can almost taste the flavour of blood in my mouth. Is it weird that I kinda liked that taste? I’m pretty sure it is. My Dad pulled one of my teeth out with pliers once… ouch!

I am sorry to hear about your friend. Hopefully with the available treatment modalities she’ll be able to do well.

There has been so much tragic news around lately… a close friends sister suffered an aneurysm and is only 47 years old… another friends significant other is still hospitalized 4 weeks after being diagnosed with Staph Meningitis - spent 10 days in a drug induced coma and intubated … a nurse and mentor for my wife has been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma — and it is so advanced it is in his liver, pancreas and bone…

And so I try to get healthier….

Thinking of you, and your friend.

I hope the outcome is good for her.

    It’s scary though isn’t it.

Well done on your 12 minute mile too!

I hope you’re feeling better soon,
    keep those fluids up!

Is this Little Miss Blue Eyes first wiggly tooth? Exciting!

I’m so sorry about your friend’s news. So many women survive it, but the fight is long and exhausting. I’m praying for her strength and healing. I don’t know if she is a mother, but this blog might be a source of comfort for her.

I’m sorry about your friend’s illness. I find it sadly ironic that she got the news during Breast Cancer Awareness month. I hope she is able to stay positive about her fight… I’m a true believer that positive thinking aides in recovery from disease. Thoughts and prayers abound! *hugs*
