My Middle Baby

Remember a few weeks ago when I said I was going to do the important but not urgent task of ordering the baby pictures I lost?
Well they came in.
I spent this afternoon flipping though memory lane. Sunshine girl sat on my lap- all 32 pounds and asked every little question that happened on that day 4 and 1/2 years ago. If you haven’t guessed, the most memorable aspect was she was tiny and jaundiced.
Big head and teeny body. At full term she was only 5 lbs 4 oz.
Check out the surgical mask for her diaper. Cute huh?
My Father didn’t quite know what to make of it all.
This is her close up in the step down NICU. I kept running back and forth feeding her pumped breast milk so she could stay under the lights as long as possible.
Gosh that was so long ago. Now she’s as healthy as a horse.

Kathleenon 19 Oct 2008 at 4:12 pm 2Oh what adorable pictures. Thank goodness you were able to get these again so you could share with Miss Sunshine. I know how much it must have meant to her.
As for the look on your father’s face, I think I understand that look very well. It reminded me of myself in the NICU looking at my second twin grandson, Luke. He was up very high and they had to use that suction thing to bring him down for birth. He had them worried as it had been 45 minutes. I remember looking with amazement at him that evening, and at the same time my mind and soul was praying he would be just fine. We grandparents all have that look I believe! At that moment, I bonded with Luke much closer – and I think it will always be this way. He captured a very special place in my heart and soul. Bet Miss Sunshine did too!

I bet she loved sitting on your lap and looking at them all. My big girls still ask questions about their birth day.

Dr. Casonon 20 Oct 2008 at 8:28 pm 10Thanks everyone for the sweet words. I loved the one of my dad looking on as well. If you know my dad-he’s a thinker and I could tell there were little wheels turning inside!
Kristinon 21 Oct 2008 at 7:30 am 11What a great story. I love to hear baby stories. I’ve never seen anything quite like the surgical mask “diaper” what a hoot.
Thanks so much for sharing these with us.

Forever Hodgeon 28 Oct 2008 at 12:27 pm 12I’m so glad you got your pictures back. I was in a kind of daze during the NICU days with the boys. I think it was the medicine from the c-section or the spinal headache or maybe from the crying I did……either way some of it is fuzzy. Luckily, I can look back at our pictures and it makes it easier to remember. Anyway, thanks for bringing back the memories! I’m gonna go pull out some pictures now!
