The Circus Comes to Town
Posted by Dr. Cason on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Have you ever been to the circus? I haven’t and was really taken by it. I thought it would be a little “too” much but it wasn’t. I got sucked into the drama and music. I was hoping for some animals so I was a little disappointed. But it makes sense. They’d have to take a boat over here. A long hot ride and then were would they keep them?
Smiling boy was really taken by the acrobats. “She’s stepping on her!”
Little Miss Blue Eyes sat with her friend and ignored me the whole time.
I didn’t mind she was only a few seats away.
Sunshine girl vacillated between sitting with her sister and sitting with her mommy. BTW last night she just called me “Mom” for the first time. *Gulp* Age 4 and a half and already having that inner struggle between big independent girl and Mommy’s girl. Later she did crawl in bed with me. I think I still have her for a little while yet!
Here’s the best of the night…The last one is taken by my friend. I haven’t invested in a good telephoto lens. Soon I hope… that and a macro lens!
Also thanks to all of your opinion about the “Best of…” Keep ‘em coming! I will soon post more in my sidebar.

My brother also loves photography. His has always been with 35 mm and many lenses – did not go for the digital yet. His hobby has been going to the Ringling Brothers circus and capturing the aerial acts for many, many years. I told him he needed to do an exhibit in one of the restaurants here in Memphis and title it the “History of Ringling Brothers.” He is very good with his photography also.
Logan Jacoton 29 Oct 2008 at 1:49 am 2Dear Kathleen,
I was once in your position and then I spent almost five years learning more about circuses and how animals are really trained and I can gurantee you that circus animals are almost always very well taken care. If you ever want to talk about any of your concerns please feel free to contact me.
Take care,
Logan Jacot

Kristinon 29 Oct 2008 at 2:08 am 3I’m allergic to animals so I haven’t been to a circus in a very very long time. This would have been perfect! The photos are beautiful. Those 4 year olds are something, one minute they are BIG and the next they are small. I get to see my almost 5 year old niece in a few weeks she calls me Tottie (for Auntie) and I hope she never changes that word to Auntie or Aunt. I love being called Tottie.

Kathleenon 29 Oct 2008 at 3:47 am 4Hey Logan – Isn’t it a small world. You do not know how much comfort this gives me hearing your words. I have heard so many horror stories, and these things always upset me so much.
I would love to learn more about the treatment of the animals from you. I’ll send you an e-mail this week. If it is okay, I would also love to share your blog with my brother. He would probably enjoy sharing some of his Ringling Brothers photos with you, and yours with him too.
Thanks for the word of encouragement about the circus. I feel better already.
Amy Wrighton 29 Oct 2008 at 4:42 am 5When I was 5 years old, my family had tickets to go to the circus. I still remember begging my dad to still take me even after I came down with the chicken pox.
When I was in high school, my mom and best friend and her mom all went out on a drive together. We ended up in the parking lot where the circus had been. We sat and watched in awe as the elephants helped tear down the tent. I wish that I would have had my camera that night. One of the elephants started going crazy and the trainer got it to calm down and it started working again. That night was better than going to the circus.
Your photos are great!!! And it’s fun to hear the stories of your kids.

tiffon 29 Oct 2008 at 8:05 am 7Wow , looks like a fun night.
They will always be yours, Sheila.. Your girls, just more aloof about it all. My big girls are learning independence and my middle girl has always been her own person but when they need some TLC they always stop by my lap and they are 12 and 10.
Kylaon 29 Oct 2008 at 10:20 am 8Great photos! I’ve only been to the circus once, some friends of mine found out I had never been and decided they had to fix that problem immediately!
