Empty Shell

It sat in a little vulnerable spot, right next to the car. I nearly tripped on it. Nearly. Instead I sat and pondered what made the owner leave…

Did it grow up and move out?

Die?

Transfer with the Navy?

Or is it just out to get a carton of milk and pick up the kids at daycare?

My guess is grew up and moved on. But I like your idea of moved with the Navy! Pretty temporary abode though.

It was probably eaten out of it’s shell and made a nice treat for a bird. Snail shells grow with the snail, so they don’t leave willingly.

I think it read a book about world travel and decided to take it’s own journey.

Perhaps it grew bored of it’s old home and hitched a ride on the car that was residing in the parking space. Off to the new and distant lands of suburbia…where it found a sneaker and discovered it to be quite roomy (if not a little smelly) and decided it might like to stay and watch what other creatures who do not live near the sand and the sea get up to.

tiff – Such a cute reply. If you are not a writer, you should be. I got a good laugh out of your description about of the adventures of the shell creature.
