it's so funny...I had many of your same thoughts and I too have taken many, many, many pictures of the banana trees that grow in our yard...we made our holiday banana bread with the bananas we grew in our own back yard...how cool is that!!!! it is something I will miss someday and I don't take for granted.

I have fond memories from my time living in Iceland...the fish market in Keflavik...I could buy FRESH salmon whenever I wanted and loved searching for new recipes to prepare it...I miss living on base and having themed dinner parties and the feeling of closeness with my friends there...I miss the long, long days of "summer" there...I miss Iceland and love being able to say "I used to live in Iceland".

Wow, wonderful banana trees. You will sure miss those if you leave there.
It's not the banana trees I miss most from where I used to live but the sea, the weather and the peaceful and relaxed way of life, I guess. Living outdoors mostly and meeting friends out on the streets, etc. etc. etc. Funny how you appreciate such kind of things much more when living elsewhere.
All I can say to you is enjoy the time in that tropical place as much as you can!
Mmmm and what do I appreciate most where I live now, well the seasons I guess but still I don't like snow! well not like is a big word. I like to see it from behind the window but if you have to go through I hate it. It also makes me worried about the rest of the family getting home safe and sound. Due to the weather already several people died in the past weekend. The worst is a mum, dad and daughter of a family. An 11 year old son is critically injured and is in hospital.

Oh wow!! The picture of your banana tree looks awesome!

Well, you can't have all the comforts that come from city life, while living in a tropical more relaxed island! It's great that your family gets a breath of experience.

The hubs and I moved across the country a year after we got married. I had a really hard time with it at first but we have lived in 3 cities in 3 years so I have become pretty flexible. I love where we live now, small town, with a mountain view AND a Starbucks, however I would pick up and move to a place like guam at the drop of a hat. A banana tree sounds magical!

I miss the horses on my family's farm back in Idaho, though I hear that it is now a subdivision. I miss the places of my childhood that are too far away to go visit often. I miss the mountains from Salt Lake City, and I've learned that I have absolutely no sense of direction without them. The thing I appreciate the most about Minneapolis is the people. This is by far the friendliest place I've ever lived. Also, it's nice to live in a "blue" state for the first time in my life :-). If only I could do something about the subzero winter temperatures!!... Oh well, I suppose you can't have it all.

I hear that bananas are going extinct. Everything is, actually.

What I miss most about home in the snow. What I appreciate most about here is the lack thereof, oy vey.

This is why I live in my hometown . . . although I do miss it when away - and especially in college, I missed the water, the green, and yes, the RAIN.

I love this post!

Great post... seriously my wife and I think and say this kind of stuff all the time. We've been away from home for about 4 years now. We both grew up in the same town and even started dating in highschool. Both her family and mine are all still there and it's the absence from family that is the hardest thing for us. We both come from large and wonderful homes. Kim is the oldest of 4 girls, I'm the youngest of 5. I also miss a little place in Bountiful called Paces Dairy Ann. The nastiest looking burger joint that has been around for 40 years. But their burgers are to die for!
I love the weather in California. We live in the San Francisco Bay Area and it really is beautiful. I also love the many ethnicitys and different cultures here as well. The diversity is what I love about where we live now. My wife and I go back and forth. She always is saying, "Honey we could buy a house back home for $180,000!!!" I love California right now, eventually it's my goal to raise my my kids around our family.

Great pics too-

I miss knowing something would be open fairly well regardless of what time I thought I had a need. I miss being only a few minutes from good friends.

I love living in the "woods" and the fact that the dogs think we moved to the park. As annoying as the deer may be, I love the little herd that likes to hang out in my yard. I love the huge amount of space that we now have.
