My Photos and Thoughts

Her first 5K

Posted by Dr. Cason on Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

She asked so I took her. I thought when 4:45 am came, she’d roll over -jumped was more like it. She popped out of bed like I’d offered her candy, then all the way there she kept asking how long it would take.

Her eyes grew wide at the crowd and she looked at me skeptically when we warmed up.I laughed. She was a little self conscious.

5-4-3-2-1 Go! And she went. A minute later she looked up and said, “How much longer?”

“Oh baby-girl we have a long way to go!”

We kept running. Almost immediately she started itching her legs. I think the sweat was bothering her. She walked and ran and walked. I set goals for her. “Up to the third pillar and then we’ll stop.” “Around the corner to the palm tree and then we start again ok?”

At first I told her don’t worry about the people passing us up and then at the end I switched tactics, “Look at those kids! You can beat them!” She picked up the pace. I forgot that for a kid, competition can be fun.

Wow, what a little gal! I’m impressed. Now Mom Sheila, you need to take that shirt and number along with your great pics and make her a trophy in the form of a large-framed collection of the day’s memories. Maybe an entry form too. She needs to have a special trophy for this day. Oh, and don’t forget to take a picture of that clock at home showing 4:45 am to remind her how early she had to get up for this too.

    Kyla- I will!

Nikki- Now come on! With how much you are ru8nning around with danger, I bet you could run pretty fast!

Trish- I know! I can’t wait to take her out again.

Tiff- I’ve always encouraged the kids to get out and exercise. If it’s fun they’ll keep it up!

Kathleen- I showed her the photos and she was pretty excited. We saved her number. She paraded it around for everyone.

Sara- I’m so proud of her. She’s a trouper.

Karen- I try not to worry about time, just get out there and move. Better than sitting in front of the TV!

Kristen- I’m trying to start a tradition! It keeps me motivated too!

Myst- I’ll be asking her again this weekend. I’ll let you know what she says!

Amy- Teeny baby steps. I look like I’m ill in the beginning but then I get all warmed up and move a little faster. (BTW blogger still doesn’t let me visit you!)

Brian- See, she doesn’t know it but she was supporting me! :)

I am so proud of her and you. The boys did their first 5K and when the leg heals I will be back out there with them again. I am really happy that the kids and yourself are staying so active. Keep up the good work. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving.

Talena- Thanks so much. I was excited to have her with me. A once in a life time experience. Until we do it again. :)

Jaden- I don’t think she realizes how great she did. I’ll remind her.

    Lisa- Gotta start them young!

Carrie- Sure you could. Walk, run and then walk some more.
