This little sleepy face. He was cold and wet and under the scarf that just an hour before he said he didn’t need. Now he was grateful for the warmth and very tired. A minute after this photo- he was asleep and my husband’s back was aching.

It’s not all smiles at this age. But I adore it.

I’m not entirely sure what that means but I did a little chant as I took these photos.

She spilled yesterday. It seems that spinning around on the office chair can get you more than just giggles. We heard the screams from across the room. Nothing that some LET and two stitches couldn’t take care.

The Sinus Infections Just Keep on Coming

We can drown in the unknown. We can paralyze ourselves from the anticipation of what to do. But the simple fact is we don’t know. We can even begin to expect to understand why everything happens and then how to manipulate it.

It’s taken me my whole life to realize this.

And then only on good days.

The sinus infection has been raging off and on since June. We’re scheduled for adenoidectomy in December. He did pretty well with the last procedure. Here he was post op. Makes you want to crawl in next to him huh?

That’s what I did.

Her first 5K

She asked so I took her. I thought when 4:45 am came, she’d roll over -jumped was more like it. She popped out of bed like I’d offered her candy, then all the way there she kept asking how long it would take.

Her eyes grew wide at the crowd and she looked at me skeptically when we warmed up.I laughed. She was a little self conscious.

5-4-3-2-1 Go! And she went. A minute later she looked up and said, “How much longer?”

“Oh baby-girl we have a long way to go!”

We kept running. Almost immediately she started itching her legs. I think the sweat was bothering her. She walked and ran and walked. I set goals for her. “Up to the third pillar and then we’ll stop.” “Around the corner to the palm tree and then we start again ok?”

At first I told her don’t worry about the people passing us up and then at the end I switched tactics, “Look at those kids! You can beat them!” She picked up the pace. I forgot that for a kid, competition can be fun.

He’s Better and Faster Than I Would Have Ever Dreamed

I’m proud of my little man. He has more balance and natural athletic ability in his little finger than I have in my whole body. When I gave him a little bitty baby razor scooter a couple of weeks ago, he stepped on it twice and then promptly stole his sister’s bigger razor.

After much screaming, I bought him his own.

At first, a helmet didn’t seem necessary. I mean how fast could he go right?

I underestimated his coordination. He’s that good.

If you say, “Show me a chicken leg!” He’ll stick his left leg straight out at a 90 degree angle and whiz by you. I’ve had to make rules about where he can take it. He’s never run into anyone and uses his brake phenonemally well. But you what happens when you taken chances…Now my mommy pediatrician guilt has overwhelmed me. I can no longer ignore it. He needs a helmet. The battle has begun.
