Grateful and Some Odds and Ends

Dr. Cason on Oct 12th 2008

Little Miss Blue Eyes is losing a tooth. I’m savoring the last few days of that sweet wiggly guy trying to come out.
Yesterday’s runner’s high lasted all day. Though I did feel really sniffly and sneezy a few hours later. Now I’m officially sick- toxin release? Is that even possible? I’m grateful I got out [...]

A Twelve Minute Mile

Dr. Cason on Oct 11th 2008

It’s 8:30 am here in Guam and Saturday morning. Clinic will begin soon.
I’ve been up for hours. I snuck out early this morning at O dark thirty and made my way down for a 5 K run. It’s my second one I’ve ever run but I’m still working at being in shape. At 5′8″ 130 lbs [...]

Night Lights

Dr. Cason on Oct 10th 2008

There was a time long ago when I came alive at night.
Then I became a doctor.
Then I had kids.
And now night time is when I sleep. Except now I have joined the full time working moms of this world- for the next few weeks. It’s bronchiolitis season and the clinic is bustling.
I find myself coming [...]

Bali Cooking School and a Tightness in My Tummy AKA Just Why Am I Doing This?

Dr. Cason on Oct 9th 2008

Flickr is flickering and fluttering like a struggling flame to upload my photos and I feel a tightness in my stomach. I have the photos all ready and I’ve promised to talk more of the Bali cooking school. But I can’t because I am depending on a program that isn’t functioning right. Or at least [...]

Blueberry or Cherry

Dr. Cason on Oct 6th 2008

Slowly life is getting a little better.
Smiling boy is pinking up.
The house is getting cleaned and the papers filed.
I’ve created a schedule for myself and actually put in …*gasp*… running.
Last night I was talking to smiling boy about getting some soy yogurt,
“Do you want Cherry or Blueberry?”
“Blueberry!”
“Blueberry or Cherry?”
“Cherry!”
Hmmm I tried again
“Blueberry or Cherry?” [...]

Sweetness

Dr. Cason on Oct 3rd 2008

Can I tell you how delighted I am that my friend took these photos. As the photographer I’m not often in the pictures. I really don’t mind but it is great to see us together. Little Miss Sunshine just turned 4 this past May.  She’s my middle girl the one who sneaks in at 3:00 [...]

A Day in the Life of Clinic

Dr. Cason on Oct 2nd 2008

Here’s a glimpse of today- as best as  I can remember.
9:30- Patients trickling in but still being triaged. I’m finishing notes from yesterday. 19 charts to go. An extra  11 charts sit next to me to review.  So is a coffee cup with- no not coffee- water. Hmmm…Keeping the stories straight can be challenging.  Ooops- [...]

He’s Anemic

Dr. Cason on Oct 1st 2008

He’s anemic.
And not just a little but a lot.
I started crying when I found out- No surprise there!
You know what that means right?
It means I’m not crazy.
It means he is pale.
And I can treat it.
Oh happy days…

I’m Looking for the Positive

Dr. Cason on Sep 29th 2008

You are looking for the positive.
You see it in glimpses
Through the tears.  And the tears keep coming. Through the night. You wake up and cry through the shower, through the drive to work and God help you sporadically through the office. You choke back the tears when they ask you how he is. Fine you [...]

Balance

Dr. Cason on Sep 28th 2008

I’m writing this a few days ahead because it’s my birthday weekend and I refuse to sit on the computer when I could be connecting in real life.
Little Miss Blue eyes is home sick from school.Yep. The GI bug crossed to her! Sorry baby.
Feeling better right now. Cried this morning and wrote a mildly depressing [...]
